Cardiovascular Technician

The Cardiovascular Technician will be assisting in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases. They will perform a variety of tests and procedures, including electrocardiograms, stress tests, and echocardiograms, to gather important data about a patient’s heart health.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Diploma in Health Science (Cardiovascular Technology).
  • In-depth understanding of the structure and function of the heart, blood vessels, and circulatory system is fundamental for accurate diagnosis and interpretation of cardiovascular conditions.
  • Proficiency in using ultrasound technology to capture detailed images of the heart's structure and function is essential for evaluating cardiac health and assisting in the diagnosis of various cardiovascular disorders.
  • Knowledge of vascular anatomy and expertise in performing vascular studies, including Doppler exams, are important for assessing blood flow and detecting abnormalities in the arterial and venous systems.
  • Understanding of invasive cardiac procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, and the ability to assist physicians during these procedures contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular conditions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducting and interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs or EKGs) to measure and record the electrical activity of the heart.
  • Administering stress tests to evaluate the heart's response to physical activity and identifying abnormalities.
  • Performing echocardiograms using ultrasound equipment to create detailed images of the heart's chambers, valves, and blood vessels.
  • Analyzing echocardiographic images to assess cardiac function and identify structural abnormalities.
  • Conducting vascular studies, including arterial and venous Doppler exams, to evaluate blood flow, detect blockages, and assess the condition of blood vessels.
  • Assisting physicians during cardiac catheterization procedures, including preparing the patient, monitoring vital signs, and providing technical support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including test results, medical history, and other relevant information.
  • Ensuring patient safety during procedures, including proper positioning, monitoring, and adherence to safety protocols.
