The Dental Laboratory Technician’s objective is to take significant responsibility as a member of the
dental health care team. A Dental Technician makes dentals prostheses, replacements for natural
teeth to help people who have lost some or all their teeth to eat, chew, talk and smile in a manner
that is similar or better than the way they did before. Fabrication of dental prosthetics includes PFM
crowns, bridges, metal free ceramic crowns, cobalt-chrome frameworks, implant crowns &
dentures.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years dental laboratory experience in all areas of Dental specialty including implants, crowns bridges, removable Prosthodontic and Orthodontic appliances.
  • Education and training through a two-year program at a community college, vocational school, technical college, university or dental school.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designing & construct orthodontic removable appliances like Hawley's retainer, Twin block, bite planes, clear retainers, night guard, expansion screws & orthodontic study models.
  • Construct PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crown & bridges, full metal crown & gold crown.
  • Construct metal substructure for CO-CR (cobalt-chrome) framework & PFM restorations.
  • Fabricate metal free ceramic crowns, veneers, inlays & on-lays.
  • Strong understanding of dental anatomy and occlusion to create natural aesthetics using
    variety of porcelain shades.
  • Fabrication of acrylic dentures, provisional restorations, denture-repairs, custom trays, relining & rebasing.
  • Practical knowledge on dental laboratory Implant system.
  • Practical knowledge on dental CAD-CAM system is an added advantage.
