Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Officer

The OHS Officer will be responsible for overseeing the OSH Unit day-to-day operations and activities. They also provide JPMC staff with appropriate OHS and Fire Safety guidance and advice.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HSE, Health Management, Fire Safety or related field from an institute recognized by the Ministry of Education is required.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is required.
  • IOSH Managing Safely Certification is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety or Fire Safety in a healthcare setting is required.
  • Knowledge and skill in Occupational Health and Safety work such as inspection, investigating, report writing and risk assessment.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure risk assessments of hospital facilities to identify potential hazards related to OHS and fire safety are conducted regularly.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain OHS and fire safety policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that safety protocols are effectively communicated to all hospital staff through training sessions, educational materials, and emergency drills.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance levels and identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on OHS and fire safety topics for hospital staff at all levels.
  • Provide ongoing education and awareness campaigns to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • To ensure emergency drills such as fire emergencies are conducted periodically to educate staff on how to respond during emergencies.
  • To participate in in OHS and fire investigations team to perform incident investigations.
