Celebrating the World Mental Health Day, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) held a Poolside Yoga on 9th October 2022 to raise awareness on mental health issues happening around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health through physical activities such as yoga.
The Yoga session was instructed by JPMC Fitness Centre’s instructor, William Chong Siew Yoong, with the support of 40 members of the public signed up to experience the impact yoga can do to our mental health.
Mental health is important at every stage of life for our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Our mental health determines how we handle stress and make healthy choices on a daily basis. Yoga has been shown to lower stress hormones by simultaneously releasing beneficial brain chemicals such as endorphins and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).
JPMC also highlights how they can provide assistance with anyone facing mental health issues, from relieving stress through physical activities at JPMC Fitness Centre, to specialist consultation with our psychologists and psychiatrist.
